Яхве обладает высшими качествами по сравнению со всеми elohim. Но не атрибуты Бога делают его elohim, поскольку низшие существа являются членами той же группы. Авторы Ветхого Завета понимали, что Яхве был elohim, но никакой другой elohim не был Яхве. Он был уникальным в своем роде среди всех жителей духовного мира.

Имя Яхве показывает вечную природу Бога, а именно то, что Он всегда существует. Слово Яхве на иврите - глагол «быть» в настоящем времени, и означает Сущий, вечно существующий и никем не сотворенный, первопричина всего существующего, как сказано «прежде Меня не было Бога и после Меня не будет».
